Dateline: June 2, 2011 … Last week, blogger Clay Forsberg put up a post called “The Government Isn’t Going To Help You So Get Over It.”
The title sounds harsh, but, actually, Clay is appealing to the better nature in most of us. Like I told Clay, “Everyone has resources to offer … and I don’t mean money. Around every corner there are mentors, there are tutors – there are role models. This is true in every neighborhood, no matter how impoverished, no matter how stressed. I wonder what would happen if I looked around my neighborhood the next time I need something: an idea, some help, a way to help somebody else … “
Clay agreed, saying, “We have to get out of this mentality of thinking the solutions to problems will come from somewhere other than those directly around us.”
Good point. Instead of being suspicious of the folks around us – our neighbors – what would happen if we begin to look out for one another? Wouldn’t we all feel safer? Obviously, not every mishap or crime can be avoided, but where we can, let’s reach out and find safety in our numbers.
These home security and safety tips from ADT focus on Neighborhood Crime Watch programs. Let’s get together!
