While we can find no consistent definition of “home invasion” (either from a legal or law enforcement viewpoint), certain characteristics come to mind when we hear the term:
• forced, physical entry
• use of some sort of weapon
• more than one perpetrator
• physical contact with or physical assault of or the victims
• loud demands for cash, credit cards, or other hidden valuables
• theft of property.
The dramatization here demonstrates the nature of home invasions, as we are coming to distinguish them from other crimes.
